Description

Product description for Corzano e Paterno Chianti “Terre di Corzano” DOCG 2023 (bio)The grapes for this cuvée, made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo, are hand-picked and fermented separately according to grape variety and vineyard. In top vintages, up to 5% of black stalks are fermented. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with the grapes’ own yeasts in small 1-ton tanks and open fermenters. Maceration lasts between 21 and 35 days, depending on the quality of the grapes, location, and soil. Extraction is achieved by gently submerging the pomace cap, rarely by pumping over. Malolactic fermentation takes place partly in wood and partly in steel, before the wines age for about a year in 25- to 40-hl “botti grandi,” with a small portion in used barriques and tonneaux.

Colour

Intense ruby red, bright and clear.

Nose

The nose is an absolute benchmark for the region, or “textbook,” as the English would say. That means it smells the way it should – which means: Tuscany. In this case, of course, it’s Sangiovese, and with it the typical cherry cascades, a hint of bay leaf, thyme, sandalwood, and maquis – the entire palette of the region. A dense conglomerate with a slightly ethereal-balsamic superstructure, taut, stringent, and very disciplined.

Palate

On the palate, the 2023 Terre di Corzano from Corzano e Paterno performs like an athlete: well-defined, everything in balance, nothing bolide or exaggerated. The fruit is perfectly integrated into the wine’s taut structure, punctuated by almost powdery-fine tannins. The acidity propels it in a steady flow across the palate, the extract-rich core constricted like a corset. Deep, with a sparkling red core and an ethereal, cool finish.
