Wine Information

This wine comes from the 2.2-hectare Les Sureaux vineyard. The vineyard is characterized by clay (30%), silt (40%), and sand (30%) at a depth of 50 to 80 cm on a bedrock of Asteria limestone. It lies at an altitude of 82 to 100 meters. Only Merlot was used for this wine. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically. Agroforestry and permaculture are also integrated. After hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentation took place, followed by aging in used oak barrels for 18 months. The wine was bottled without filtration or fining.

This single-varietal Merlot from the Les Sureaux vineyard initially has a surprisingly restrained aroma. With air, however, it becomes increasingly intense, offering plenty of cassis alongside plum, blackberries, cherries, and violets. Added to this are notes of lime dust and some lightly grilled herbs.

Taste

On the palate, this is a juicy, still slightly astringent, cool, and elegant Merlot, displaying impressive freshness and coolness, as well as a clear, lively acidity. The wine is transparent and open, with charming fruit and silky, only slightly firm tannins.
