Product description for Clemens Busch Riesling Marienburg Grosses Gewächs “Fahrlay” 2021 (bio)
Info
The Fahrlay area is located directly next to the Pünderich ferry dock and is the only area of the Pünderich Marienburg where blue slate dominates. Blue slate is significantly harder than gray and red slate. The vines have a tough time growing in their youth until their roots have penetrated the deep, water-rich cracks in the slate slabs. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe in several rounds, with Bortrytis grapes selected for late or Auslese wines. Pressing takes place with low pressure but over a long pressing time. After natural sedimentation, the must is spontaneously fermented in a traditional barrel. Fermentation usually lasts until July or longer. The result is extremely mineral wines that are often angular and cool in their youth, but then become increasingly complex with age and show great aging potential.
Colour
Bright, light straw yellow with green inclusions
Nose
In 2021, Clemens Busch achieved a truly great success. The Grand Crus are sensationally delicate and elegant. His ethereal nose, characterized by herbs from near and far, runs like a common thread through the collection. Marienburg Fahrlay Riesling radiates energy. Lemongrass, wheatgrass, and plenty of sorrel and lemon balm flow from the glass. Eucalyptus and peppermint complement this wonderfully while providing a distinctly cooler note. Wood sorrel and garden cress lend a certain spiciness that is both earthy and nutty. A very delicate hint of white peach and a hint of Nashi pear emerges. Only restrained, but with patience and increasing intensity, artichoke and fennel, but above all, fresh peas, develop in the glass. A totally exciting, gripping nose.
Palate
On the palate, it concentrates the impressions it gathers into a fine, dense beam. Compact and characterized by a magnificent, appealing phenolic structure, it clearly demonstrates its energetic nature and its origins. The elaborate, enormously commendable work in the vineyard pays off here. Pure haptics. Full of vibration and radiance. The fruit is absolutely secondary. Its herbal spiciness plays a major role. Juicy and animating in equal measure. Its finesse and elegant structure are a new benchmark for me. Absolutely long-lasting and distinctive in the finish.
