Product description for Cirelli Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC Amphora 2022 (bio)
Info
The Trebbiano vines for this wine from Francesco Cirelli’s amphora grow on limestone and clay. The harvest took place in mid-September, the grapes were completely destemmed, and the berries were then macerated for 24 hours. The must is then separated from the skins and gently pressed. The must is transferred to amphorae, where natural yeasts take over and drive the vinification process. The wine is allowed to mature in the clay amphorae for 18 months before being prepared for bottling.
Colour
Bright straw yellow with light and golden reflections
Nose
Dry grass, summer meadow hay, and forest flowers immediately come to mind when I smell the glass of Francesco Cirelli’s 2022 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. It has a wonderful aroma of ripe grapes, which is rare in wines, as well as quince and ripe pear. Peach, mirabelle plum, and cantaloupe melon also make a wonderful appearance. It also thrives on a yeasty yet subtle note. This evokes memories of shortcrust pastry and bee sting, almonds, and honey. Its nuttiness, combined with dried garden herbs, develops further as it goes along.
Palate
This variety of aromas is skillfully showcased, as is the expected texture. Equipped with a rich phenolic structure, it appears robust yet leaves room for a variety of flavours. With moderate acidity, it showcases its craftsmanship very well. It is dense yet full of finesse. It retains its grapey character wonderfully on the palate. The yellow fruit combines very harmoniously with the dried herbs in the finish. It leaves room for accompaniments such as food or conversation and never pushes itself into the foreground. But when he is asked, he is there.

Score: 92
Nuances of musky dried peach and sage combine with a whiff of white smoke as the delicate and understated 2022 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Amphora comes to life in the glass. This soothes the senses and the soul with a silken texture and a nearly oily sensation offset by a core of zesty acidity as mineral-inflected white pit fruit notes settle. It finishes long yet lifted and perfumed. A subtle tinge of almond that adds an enriching effect on the close.
