Abélard comes from an idyllic, high-altitude vineyard on Mont Ventoux. After being hand-picked, the grapes are selected twice. The result is superlative fruit quality. The cuvée consists of Grenache Noir and Syrah from old vines. Aging takes place in individual batches in small oak barrels for 18 months.

Colour

Dense purple, light rim, and violet reflections with hints of incipient ripeness.

Nose

The nose reveals its dark, profound side. 2013 Abélard reveals abundant tomato, beetroot, and dark fruits: blackberry, cassis, and elderberry. A hint of red currant and raspberry adds a supporting touch. White pepper, along with juniper, exudes plenty of intense spice. A touch of cubeb pepper and a generous portion of licorice add further ethereal accents. Melting, dark chocolate and a hint of roasted coffee beans are just what you need. Its Mediterranean origins are undeniable. The characteristic garrigue is omnipresent. Olives, thyme, rosemary, and almond blossom.

Palate

From the very first sip, its strengths are clearly evident. The Ventoux thrives on strong, cooling winds. Its Mediterranean character is clearly contained. Pure finesse and elegance. It appears stony and elegant. The fruit is thus delicate and noticeably more acidic. Far from powerful and concentrated, it envelops the palate in a silky texture. The vegetal notes of tomato, with plenty of spice, and earthy beetroot are recognizable on the palate without any fuss. Absolutely harmonious and perfectly portioned. This wine from this origin couldn’t taste better today. It’s also perfectly matured and absolutely harmonious. It’s at its absolute drinking peak.
