Product description for Château Falfas Château Falfas, Côtes de Bourg AOC 2017 (bio)
Info
Château Falfas is located in Bayon in the Côtes de Bourg. The vineyards were planted in the 1980s and are entirely biodynamically farmed. The blend consists of 55% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, along with a complementary Malbec. The wines are typically aged in small barriques, with a good third of these being first-fill barrels. After just under a year in the barrel, the wine is bottled.
Color
Rich cherry red with a dark core and lighter rim.
Nose
The 2017 Château Falfas thrives on an honest, profound nose. It appears mature and completely at peace with itself. Fruit, spice, earthiness, and elegance are in absolute harmony with one another. Sweet cherry, plum, cassis, and elderberry characterize its aroma. It exhibits earthy nuances of damp forest floor and undergrowth. Light tobacco leaves and cigar box can also be detected. There are plenty of spicy aromas: black pepper, allspice, juniper, and marjoram. Lovage and rosemary provide it with intensely fragrant herbs. Lovage, in particular, is distinctive and directly suggests umami associations. Cinnamon and roasted hazelnuts swirl in the background – wonderful.
Palate
These umami thoughts are fully satisfied. It appears juicy, meaty, and spicy, yet this is all done in total harmony with melting tannins. The fruit is subordinate and serves more as a structural base. Its earthy spiciness, as described in the nose, comes across very well. The spicy accents of spices and herbs clearly characterize its flavor profile. It appears polished and stands on a stony foundation. Its hearty character is very resonant. Accessible yet at the same time very sophisticated. A very good Bordeaux for a very reasonable price. The tannins coat the mouth very pleasantly in the finish. These fine bitternesses also bind the fruit further and allow the wine to linger long aftertaste.
