Product description for Château de Pibarnon Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2019 (bio)Provence is certainly not short of stunningly beautiful locations. But anyone who has ever visited Château Pibarnon in the Bandol appellation knows the magic of this winery and its terraced vineyards, from which one can see the nearby Mediterranean. In 1989, Eric de Saint Victor took over management of the estate from his father and developed it into one of the finest in Provence. A qualified biologist, he runs the winery organically using biodynamic methods. Five wines are produced in the old cellars: a rare Bandol Blanc and the wines for which the appellation is world-famous: Bandol Rouge and Bandol Rosé, each vinified as a Vin de Garde made from 100% Mourvèdre, as well as cuvées that open much earlier.
Wine Information
The 2019 Pibarnon Bandol Rouge is a blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. The vines are planted in an “amphitheater” facing the sea on clay, limestone, and chalk from the Triassic period. Only the best and oldest vines are used for this Vin de Garde at an average altitude of 250 meters. Fermentation lasts around three weeks. The wines are then aged plot by plot in specially selected barriques, tonneaux, and foudres from various provenances for 20 months.
Colour
Deep, muted violet-red, deep to the rim.
Nose
The 2019 Château de Pibarnon Rouge is a red wine that invites you to immerse yourself. The plump fruit of sweet blackberries, black cherries, black currants, elderberries, and sweet wild raspberries pairs skillfully with tree bark, licorice, leather, cocoa, and roasted herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and juniper.
Palate
Charming and expansive, it flows over the tongue; sweet cassis notes pair with pronounced tannins and stimulating acidity. A truly impressive red wine whose original and animalistic character harmonizes perfectly with intense cuisine and, above all, game.
