Wine Information

The Orangerie is a building that has housed southern trees and plants during the winter since the Renaissance. This small island near Clos Béru is surrounded by fig trees, apple trees, and very old pear trees. Here lies a garden characterized by clayey soil lying on Kimmeridgian bedrock. Protected from the wind and facing south, the Clos de l’Orangerie enjoys a special microclimate that makes it a jewel. The Chablis “Orangerie” was vinified in tanks and large wooden barrels and aged on its fine lees. After aging, the Chablis was bottled unfiltered and unfined with only a slight addition of sulfur.

Nose

The Chablis from the Orangerie vineyard differs significantly from its siblings every year. Is it the abundant clay in the soil or a magic that transfers the vineyard’s name to the wine? In any case, this Chablis always smells distinctly of oranges and a hint of vanilla. It does so again in 2022. Furthermore, there are notes of limquats, mandarin oranges, and grapefruit, some carambola, and a hint of pear cream and Greek mountain tea.

Palate

On the palate, the 2022 Orangerie presents a ripe juiciness with an impressive acidity that brings full energy to the wine, but at the same time appears ripe and sensual. This builds a wonderful tension in this unique wine from the Béru portfolio. Fresh, clear, and precise, the Orangerie is at once charming, inviting, and sensual, with plenty of citrus fruits, but more full-bodied pome and stone fruit, and plenty of salt on the finish. A Chablis with plenty of playfulness and finesse.
