Description
For many years, Athénaïs de Béru worked in the financial sector in Paris before she realised that she wanted to return to her family’s estate, which is located in a somewhat remote part of Chablis. In 2006, she took over the estate and single-mindedly converted it to organic and certified biodynamic cultivation. She is also determined in the cellar, where, together with cellarmaster Ribe Gaëlle, she has achieved a remarkable mastery of vinification with extremely low or no sulphur content. Her wines all lie in barrels or amphorae for at least two winters. They have an extraordinary brilliance, a powerful constitution, and a clear precision. Today, the estate covers about 15 hectares, including the monopole vineyard Clos de Béru. The more classic Chablis sites bear the name Château de Béru, while the more experimental Vins de France can be found under the label Athénaïs.
