Information about the Wine

This wine comes from old vines in the Climat Sous Frétille (10.25 hectares in total) in Pernand-Vergelesses, in the immediate vicinity of Corton. The vineyard is located almost at the top of the hill and is largely exposed to the southeast. The sun only appears there at midday, and the vineyard is cooler than the Corton vineyard, which has increasingly benefited it in recent years. The vineyard area here is 0.11 hectares. After destemming and spontaneous fermentation, the wine is slowly aged on its fine lees for 16 months in 400-liter cigar-shaped barrels (mainly from the Atelier Centre France factory) with a new oak content of 75 to 100%.

Colour

Light golden yellow

Nose

On the first day, the Sous Frétille appears bright, distinctly citrusy, but also lactic and almost buttery in its aroma. There are also some lightly roasted nuts and a slightly smoky note. On the second day, the wine has gathered and appears significantly deeper in its aroma, with a whole basket full of citrus and stone fruit, as well as crushed lime, a hint of smoke, classic wood, and nuts.

Palate

The Pernand-Vergelesses currently needs a lot of air to collect itself. While shortly after opening it appears rather buttery and soft and somewhat diffuse in its aromas, it collects with air, becoming powerful and complex with immense depth and a fantastically long finish. This will be a masculine, citrusy and yellow-fruity, firmly structured wine with great power, which is extremely classic and is likely to leave many a Corton-Charlemagne behind.
