Description
The name Charlopin is not entirely unknown in Burgundy. Philippe Charlopin produces wines from an impressively diverse portfolio of sites in Gevrey-Chambertin. His son Yann worked with him for several years before founding his own winery with his wife, Justine Tissier, in 2013. The two of them produce wines mainly from cool sites in Marsannay and the surrounding area, but they also own plots in Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey- Chambertin and in Pernand- Vergelesses. The main focus is on Pinot Noir, which receives a particularly long cool pre-fermentation at Charlopin-Tissier and has always been completely destemmed. Although they use a comparatively high proportion of new wood, the wood always seems elegant and supportive, never obtrusive. Very classic wines are produced here, which do not follow any fashion. They develop slowly but steadily and need plenty of air and time before they begin to glow from within.
