Wine Information

Les Charmes is a vineyard on the left bank of the Vienne River on the hills of Anché, the neighboring municipality of Sazilly. The Cabernet Franc vines are 35 years old, the terroir is clayey and calcareous, and the vineyard faces north. The Cabernet Franc from Les Charmes undergoes a cool pre-fermentation for five days. The must fermentation takes place in wooden vats for around 15 days at temperatures of 24°C to 26°C. The free-run wine is blended with the best press wines. Malolactic fermentation and six to eight months of aging take place in large oak barrels.

Colour

Bright garnet red

Nose

The aroma of Les Charmes is somewhat more subtle than that of Les Petites Roches, but deeper. Here, slightly hidden, appear red currants, barberries, and cranberries, a few cherries and red bell peppers, ripe tomatoes, and tomato leaves.

Palate

Among single-vineyard wines, Les Charmes is always the first to live up to its reputation. However, the 2019 is still too young to be truly charming. However, the potential for this charm to develop in two or three years is great; the vintage is excellent. On the palate, the Cabernet Franc appears firm; the tannins are powerful and ripe, but still need to be polished off a bit. The acidity is present. The wine glows from within and, despite the tannins, is quite sensual even from the start, especially since the wood used and its spice are already proving well integrated.
