Wine Information
The Grand Cru “Les Bressandes” vineyard lies exactly in the middle of the Corton hill below the Clos du Roi and Les Renardes. Together with the Clos du Roi, it is considered the best Grand Cru vineyard on the Corton hill. The 1.12 hectares are divided into four plots, and the soil is characterized by Bajocian and Oxford limestone with pebbles, clay, and a high iron content. The Corton-Bressandes comes from vines that are on average 35 years old. The wine was fermented spontaneously in a wooden cuvée with a proportion of 40 to 50% whole grapes, then transferred by gravity into barriques and tonneaux with a small proportion of new wood. This was followed by around 14 months of aging without further movement. Bottling took place, with minimal sulphur content, mostly directly from the barrel.
Colour
slightly transparent garnet red
Nose
The 2018 vintage of Corton-Bressandes opens with a concentrated and complex blend of dark fruit notes, earthiness, and undergrowth. Blackberries are just as present here as plums, dark raspberries, honeysuckle, and peonies, with a touch of smoke, bacon, moss, and wood, dry earth and fresh, juicy notes of blood orange, as well as lime and a touch of salt.
Palate
On the palate, this Grand Cru is opulent and powerful, yet supple, elegant, and as complex as its excellent origins deserve. The Corton-Bressandes is a Pinot Noir with a concentrated core of dark, ripe fruit, spice from the limestone and wood, and slightly meaty and bacony aromas, with plenty of undergrowth and a present, smooth, fine-grained tannin, as well as lively acidity. The Pinot Noir fills the palate, always remaining precise and structured, and is full of tension and mineral vibrancy.
