Product description for Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru rouge 2016 (bio)
Wine Information
The Grand Cru vineyard “Les Bressandes” lies exactly in the middle of the Corton hill below the Clos du Roi and Les Renardes. The 1.12 hectares are divided into four plots, and the soil is characterized by Bajocian and Oxford limestone with pebbles, clay, and a high iron content.
Colour
A slightly translucent purple with a garnet-red rim and violet core, the wine appears clear and brilliant in the glass.
Nose
Along with crisp cranberry and vibrant sour cherry, this Grand Cru transports you to your home oven. Waiting for a plum tart with a shortcrust pastry base, toasted hazelnut semolina, and butter crumbles that are slowly beginning to caramelize. This well-rounded wine receives sharp, spicy support from fragrant notes of hay flowers, fennel seed, and ribwort plantain, as well as the power of green pepper and a fiery gazpacho.
Palate
On the palate, the 2016 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru from Chandon de Briailles immediately reveals its tailor-made structure. The clarity and delicacy of its purist red fruit initially reveals itself merely as a silhouette wrapped in a silken cloak, demanding time, air, and patience. A delicate spiciness is effortlessly carried by grippy, essential tannins operating in the background and, snapping its fingers from the starting blocks, acidity that suggests length reaching towards the horizon.

Score: 94
The 2016 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is also showing extremely well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, ripe plums, dark chocolate, dried flowers and spices. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, ample and velvety, with a deep, layered core, succulent balancing acids and a long, intense and beautifully soil-driven finish. Cropped at 22 hectoliters per hectare, this is an exceptional Bressandes that will be well worth seeking out.
