Description
Family-owned since 1834 and based in Savigny-lès-Beaune, the Chandon de Briailles winery is run by two siblings, Claude and François de Nicolay. François looks after the 14 hectares of vineyards and the distribution, while Claude vinifies the wines in the cellar. The estate owns the best plots in Premier and Grand Cru sites such as Aloxe-Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, and Île de Vergelesses. The siblings turned to biodynamics in 2005 and had the entire property certified in 2011. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are hardly ever destemmed. The Chardonnay is pressed slowly as whole grapes into the barriques and tonneaux, the red grapes are fermented in wood cuves. The proportion of new wood hardly exceeds 15%. The wines are bottled without filtration with minimal sulphur and in some cases without sulphur at all, often directly from the barrel.
