Description

Product description for Chandon de Briailles Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru “Les Valozières” rouge 2019 (bio)

Wine Information

The Premier Cru Les Valozières vineyard lies between the Grand Cru Corton Bressandes and Corton Les Paulands vineyards. The 0.28 hectares were planted in 1987. The topsoil is characterized by clay, while the subsoil contains a lot of limestone with pebbles. Spontaneous fermentation took place in a wooden cuvée with 100% whole bunch grapes. The wine was then transferred by gravity to barriques and tonneaux with a small proportion of new wood. This was followed by approximately 14 months of aging without further movement or racking. Bottling took place with a minimal amount of sulfur, mostly directly from the barrel.

Nose

The 2019 Aloxe-Corton appears restrained and initially reductive. The young Pinot Noir needs time. Then a spectrum of aromas develops, ranging from tobacco, bay leaves, nuts, and herbal extracts to dry undergrowth and equally dry foliage. Over time, this is layered with a very seductive, yet always subtle, note of ripe sweet cherries, red berries, and plums.

Palate

On the palate, the 2019 Aloxe-Corton is juicy, tart, and herbaceous. The fruit is more in the background. Instead, an exemplary, ripe, and powerful tannin structure has developed. The Aloxe-Corton is a muscular, broad-shouldered wine whose development has barely begun. But one can already sense some fine chiseling in the red fruit and lively acidity, which could give the wine a very bright future.
