Wine Information

The vineyards around Mölsheim are significantly cooler than the Hohen-Sülz vineyards. Not only are the vineyards quite high, allowing the cooler winds of the Donnersberg massif to blow through unprotected, but the Zeller Valley also tapers here, forcing the winds through the valley like a jet stream. The result is cooler daytime temperatures and extremely short drying periods after rainfall. The vines of the Mölsheim Riesling are rooted in the bare limestone, which here is only covered by a thin layer of gravel. Vineyard work is laborious, and every year vast quantities of limestone must be removed, which practically grows out of the vineyard. This stoniness and barrenness are perfectly expressed in the minerality of this Riesling.

Colour

Deep golden yellow, clearly interspersed with green notes.

Nose

The 2018 Mölsheim Riesling “Treasure Collection” enchants with aromas of kumquat peel, orange flesh, citrus zest, and ginger. Profound minerality and complexity are omnipresent and perfectly frame this still unpolished diamond.

Palate

Salty, fruity, and sweet, it animates the tongue with a structure that seems as cool as a mountain spring. It glides playfully across the palate and ends with a long finish. A wine at the beginning of its maturity, immensely youthful, full of verve, magnificent—pure vibrancy! Great aging potential. Be sure to decant during its youthful stage and enjoy it from large glasses, not too cold.
