Wine Information

This sparkling wine comes from the Artadi winery in Guipúzcoa, Basque Country. The center of Txakoli production is located there, right on the Atlantic coast. This local wine, made from the Hondarribi Zuri varieties and a small amount of Hondarribi Beltza, is famous in the Basque Country, but rarely found beyond. The usual Txakoli is a slightly sparkling, dry, and fresh wine. However, Artadi vinifies a vintage sparkling wine from the Txakoli grape varieties using the traditional method, which has been aged on the lees for a long time.

Colour

Medium straw yellow with quite elegant perlage.

Nose

This sparkling wine from the Basque Country is an elegant, fresh, and Atlantic representative of its genre. It smells of yellow apples and pears, yellow and green citrus notes, a salty breeze, and wet stone. It quickly becomes creamy and sensual, as the foam is reminiscent of fresh cake batter and plenty of brioche with ripe stone fruit and a touch of vanilla. Incidentally, there are notes of lemon balm, mint, iodine, and oyster shell.

Palate

On the palate, the Izar-Leku exerts considerable pressure from the outset. Here, too, everything is designed for freshness and finesse. The long maturation sur lattes produces a fine mousse. In addition to the aromas of citrus and stone fruit, there are also greengage and a touch of lime, tannin, and the tart, fresh aspect of salted lemon. Yes, it is precisely the slightly salty, perfectly integrated note that puts the icing on the cake of this successful sparkling wine, which also scores points on the palate with creaminess, light brioche and roasted aromas.
