Info

The grapes originate from an intact ecosystem full of bees and insects. After harvest, the grapes are completely destemmed, crushed, and pressed using ancient methods. Fermentation and aging take place in clay amphorae. It found its way into the bottle without stabilizers or filtration.

Colour

Bright pomegranate red, delicate orange reflections.

Nose

The nose immediately reveals its playful nature. Rooibos tea and red fruit tea vie for supremacy. Tree bark, cinnamon, clove, anise, and roasted coriander seeds add ample spicy accents. Fennel and artichoke provide delicate vegetal notes, which are brilliantly spiced with a touch of red pepper and juniper. Eucalyptus and mint add cooling, ethereal nuances. A touch of sour cherry, red currant, and wild strawberry make a very serious and by no means kitschy appearance. The final fruit complements this rather spicy Portuguese wine beautifully, balancing it well.

Palate

Vasco Croft from Aphros Wine delivers an incredibly lean, juicy red wine with the 2020 Phaunus Palhete. Whether as an aperitif or slightly chilled with a barbecue in summer, it offers a wide range of uses. Its finesse, freshness, and lightness at 11% alcohol by volume are unique. For all its elegance, it thrives on an aromatic depth rarely found in this form. One could certainly draw a connection to light Mosel Rieslings. The spice is clearly evident again in a similar form on the nose. The associations of red fruit tea are now paired with an intense herbal spice. A subtle spiciness with positive bitterness adds another dimension to the palate.
