Wine Information

The harvest took place very early, on August 17th.

The grapes come from the top vineyards of a winery partner, which could be considered for LÖWENGANG selection in the future (Alte Pergel, Dolomitschuttkegel).

Whole-bunch fermentation took place for one week with approximately 20% whole-bunch grapes. The directly pressed portion was macerated overnight on the skins before pressing. Subsequent racking, pressing of the whole-bunch fraction, and back-blending of the press wine took place. After fermentation, it was aged on the coarse lees in tonneaux for 16 months. Bottled unfiltered in January 2025.

Color

Bright golden yellow.

Nose

What wonderful fruit and beguiling freshness flows from the glass: mandarin, lemon, lemon thyme, ginger, lemongrass, and delicate hints of almond and salted butter. All impressions are subtly interwoven and seduce the senses.

Palate

On the palate, the 2023 CHARDONNAY PRE CHA XXIII practically dances; the fine fruit combines with a superbly fine acid structure and delicate spice. The alcohol content is a spectacularly low 9.5% by volume, yet it still displays beautiful density and length. South Tyrolean wine, and especially Chardonnay, has been reimagined here. Bravo to Alois Lageder and team.
