Info

On this plot, white Grenache was planted alongside Macabeo. These magnificent grapes, which are on average 70 years old, grow on sandy, calcareous soil at an altitude of 325 meters.

Fermentation takes place in oak fermenters and later ageing on the lees for 10 months in 500-liter French oak barrels.

Color

Bright lemon yellow with golden reflections and slightly rusty nuances – a visual promise of Mediterranean ripeness and austere origins.

Nose

The aroma is both puristic and expressive. Floral notes of acacia, apple, and orange blossoms initially greet the nose, accompanied by ripe orange zest, yellow and red apple peel, and a hint of apricot. Behind this initial layer of fruit, a distinctive Mediterranean depth reveals itself – freshly chopped almonds, sage, thyme, and the ethereal spice of pine groves characterize the olfactory profile.

Palate

On the palate, the Saleres 2019 is much quieter than on the nose – subtle, clear, and precise. The texture is calm, almost restrained, yet of remarkable depth. Delicate fruit notes of orange, apricot, apple, and quince accompany a medium-bodied, well-integrated acidity. The minerality – chalky, angular, and slightly salty – runs like a backbone through the wine. The Mediterranean herbs emerge again, this time more emphatically in dried form: thyme, sage, pine needles. Particularly striking is the nutty character, reminiscent of almonds, complemented by a salty, almost green olive tone.

The limestone-rich soils of Montsant are clearly reflected – almost salty and mineral, with an almost “cool” barrenness that is fascinating.
