Notizen und Noten für Tenuta di Carleone Il Randagio IGT 2022

Information

„Il Randagio“ ist „der streunende Hund“ und er hat ne Augenklappe. Typisch Sean O’Callaghan. Er ist der kleine Bruder des Il Guercio und wird genauso ausgebaut: Spontangärung in Zementanks mit vier Monaten Mazeration inklusive 40 bis 50% ganzer Trauben. Danach 12 Monate Ausbau in Zementtanks. Der Unterschiede zum Il Guercio: Die Trauben wurden früher gelesen und es sind Merlot und Cabernet Franc statt Sangiovese.

Il Randagio 2022 ist von Beginn an mehr Toskaner als Merlot-Cabernet-Bordeaux-Epigone. Eher erinnert er an die Loire. Aber tatsächlich bietet er ein wenig vom Stiefmütterchen-Duft, der typisch für Radda ist. Dazu kommen Noten von Veilchen, schwarzer Kirsche mit einer dezenten Süße, rote und dunkle Beeren und ebenso ein paar Pflaumen. Schließlich findet man hier Kräuter, ein wenig Leder und etwas Tabak. Alles wirkt saftig, frisch und gleichzeitig ambitioniert.

Gaumen

Am Gaumen kommt noch mehr Freude auf. Was ist das für ein herrlicher Wein bei diesem Rebsorten mitten im Chianti! Der Wein wirkt jugendlich und fruchtbetont mit einem Hauch von macération carbonique. Es gibt wieder florale Noten, rote und schwarze Johannisbeeren und Sauerkirschen. Der Wein wirkt kräutrig, saftig und frisch mit einem leicht griffigen Tannin und einer typisch vibrierenden Galestro-Säure. Das Finale ist fest, fleischig und frisch, die pure Frucht tänzelt mit der Säure, der Wein hat eine angenehme, leicht zünftige Komponente aber ebenso eine delikate.

The Tenuta di Carleone 2022 Il Randagio is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc (with some whole-cluster fermentation) and comes in a screw-cap bottle with a drawing of a one-eyed bulldog on the front label that surely must be a Sean O’Callaghan alter ego. He dabbles in long maceration times and alternative cement vessels. There is a lot of creative spirit in a wine like this that reveals fresh berry tones that pop brightly. The style is full of energy. This is a well-priced red that I happily recommend, especially if you are looking for a casual but spirited expression. Some 30,000 bottles were made.

The 2022 Il Randagio, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is fabulous. Bright acids and floral overtones grace this exquisite, nuanced red. There’s a good bit of whole clusters (40-50%), but stems aren’t especially evident. The 2022 spent four months on the skins in cement and open top tanks. More than anything else, it’s the freshness and purity here that stand out. What a gorgeous wine this is.
