Beschreibung
Product description for Peyre Rose Marlene N° 3 VdF 2011 Marian Henß:And it effortlessly lives up to these expectations. Compact and dense on the palate, it presents itself. A soft tannin structure and a gripping acidity ensure stability on the palate. With a noticeable astringency, it ensures plenty of tilting movements when pouring. This really whets your appetite and whets your thirst. The aromas are spread across a wide range of flavours on the palate. Never cheesy, always perfectly balanced. Marlène No. 3 is very fleshy and clearly benefits from its still astonishingly present acidity. Despite all the warmth in the south, it reveals coolness, precision, and graphite notes. At the same time, it offers a salty component. The spice fully shines through in the finish. After Belle Léone and Les Cistes, Marlène No. 3 is the third Syrah from Marlène Soria, one of the “best, craziest, and most unruly winemakers in the entire Languedoc,” as Vinum calls it. It’s certainly true that it takes a fair amount of character to age your wines for over ten years in large wooden barrels and cement tanks before bottling. But the result proves Marlène Soria right. Marlène No. 3 is a Syrah fermented with a small amount of Grenache. Both grape varieties are grown in the same vineyard on almost black soils.

Nose
Marlène No. 3, which has now matured for eleven years, like all of the winery’s wines, requires a fair amount of air and space in a decanter. If you give the wine both, the previously closed-off cuvée opens up with a mixture of smoke, Mediterranean, and fruit basket. Here you’ll find blond tobacco, cigar leaves, and a touch of cedar, garrigue and maquis, a touch of champagne, leather, and undergrowth, as well as ripe fruit such as blackberries, figs, cassis, and mulberries, rounded off with pepper, cinnamon bark, and cool stone.
Palate
On the palate, the presence and depth of the Syrah are initially captivating, along with its compactness and density, which eventually swirls through elegant acidity on the palate. Then it becomes dark fruity, juicy and fleshy, salty, and even cool thanks to tonic minerality and a hint of graphite. All of this combines with Mediterranean garrigue and powdery, fine tannins that envelop the fruit. The motto here is: Drink now, enjoy, and age well; this wine has potential for many years.
