Nose

The 2020 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine La Grange from Luneau-Papin opens with a wonderful bouquet of white blossoms, especially chamomile and acacia. Expansive floral and soft. Fresh almonds and green walnuts complement a delicate nutty layer. A hint of stone fruit emerges on silent paws. Nashi pear and freshly cut Golden Delicous apples present a juicy, fresh fruit character. Wet stones, a hint of sea breeze, and oyster shell then make a clear statement about the wine’s origins and idea. Nettle and lemon balm can also be detected, restrained and delicate.

Palate

On the first sip, the single-varietal Melon de Bourgogne immediately reveals its enormous depth and precision. The aging on the lees ensures a pleasant melt. But only enough to immediately make room for the cool, all-encompassing minerality of La Grange. Stony, maritime, and salty. The aromas oscillate between light fruits and white flowers, with a few yellow accents. The saltiness and almond are particularly evident. La Grange is pleasantly touching without being overly cerebral.
