Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rotenberg, Sélection de Grains Nobles 2000
Colour
Sparkling amber.
Nose
The 2000 Pinot Gris Rotenberg Sélection de Grains Nobles is a sweet revelation, which is clearly noticeable on the nose. Liquid honey, candied fruits, and intense spices such as ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla waft from the glass. Smoky, stony, and earthy aromas wonderfully round out the complex and intense flavour spectrum.
Palate
As promised on the nose, the 2000 Pinot Gris Rotenberg Sélection de Grains Nobles is a sweet elixir. It glides across the tongue with incredible intensity, accompanied by a salty note. The stimulating and refreshing acidity tempers this opulence somewhat, but all in all, this is a concentrated sweet wine that will delight lovers of such creations! In 2000, the limestone and iron-rich soil of the Rotenberg produced a very elegant wine with a deep reddish colour and wonderfully balanced acidity. The Pinot Gris SGN captivates with its aromas of peach, honey, and tropical fruits, the fresh scent of quince and pear, and its long, lingering finish. Combined with its excellent aging potential, this velvety and powerfully structured Pinot Gris is a valuable asset to any wine cellar.

Sporting 150 grams of residual sugar per liter, the 2000 Pinot Gris Rotenberg Selection de Grains Nobles explodes from the glass with stupendous aromatics of botrytis-laced peaches, spices, and apricots. Sweet yellow fruits are found in this powerful, plush, oily-textured offering. Projected maturity: 2006-2030+. _x000D_

In response to requests from consumers for more information as to the character of his non-Vendange Tardive or Selection de Grains Nobles wines. Olivier Humbrecht has devoloped an “indice” scale which appears on the label of each bottle. This indice ranks from 1 to 5 the perceptible sweetness of the wines, and Humbrecht describes it as follows: “1 is totally dry; 2 is not technically dry but the sweetness is not apparent on the palate; 3 is medium sweetness that may gradually disappear with aging; 4 is sweet wine; 5 is for high sweetness, a Vendange Tardive in richness but without botrytis.” Humbrecht is to be commended for instituting this system as it will immensely aid consumers._x000D_

(11.5% alcohol with 145 g/l r.s.) Yellow-gold color. Captivating, vibrant aromas of candied apricot and orange. Supersweet and juicy; less thick than the last couple of 2001 SGNs, thanks to acidity that’s almost shockingly strong for 2000 even if it’s lower than that of the 2001s. High-toned, racy, sexy SGN that will need time to unwind.
