Wine Information

Olivier Humbrecht: My grandfather, Emile Zind, loved this vineyard, located on the western slope of the Grand Cru Hengst on barren, rocky red limestone and opposite a beautiful forest. It is a peaceful spot where the grapes grow slowly. The oldest part of the vineyard was planted in the early 1950s.

Vineyard Information

In the past, we vinified it separately, but always ended up blending it with our classic Pinot Blanc. In 2021, we decided to set it aside because it showcases all the characteristics of this fantastic vineyard. Yields were very low in 2021, and the wine was fermented dry after a long fermentation and lees aging.

Colour

Brilliant golden yellow.

Nose

In addition to quince, pear, and apricot, there are roasted almonds and freshly churned butter with a hint of flint, as well as candied ginger and honey on freshly toasted baguette with salted butter. All of this is underpinned by a chalky note that adds depth and underlines its complexity.

Palate

On the tongue, the 2021 Auxerrois Rotenberg surprises with cool finesse and invigorating freshness. Its juicy fruit is accompanied by plenty of grip via the fine yet present tannin structure. A wine that, on the one hand, is mouthwatering and has a pleasant flow, and on the other, boasts a complexity that inspires and more than confirms the decision to vinify the grape variety separately.
