Product description for Vazart-Coquart & Fils Rosé Extra Brut, 2021+Res., Chouilly Grand Cru NV

The Vazart-Coquart Extra Brut Rosé Grand Cru comes from an eleven-hectare Grand Cru vineyard in Chouilly. The Chardonnay vines there average 45 years old, while the Pinot is younger. The vines are deeply rooted in belemnite chalk. The winery was in the process of converting to sustainable and organic viticulture. The first certified organic harvest took place in 2020. This cuvée is composed of 92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Noir. 60% comes from 2021, and 40% comes from a perpetual reserve started in 1982, of which 40% is removed and replenished each year. The base wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and underwent malolactic fermentation. It was bottled in May 2022. The champagne was disgorged in November 2024 with a dosage of 6 grams.

Colour

Quite intense wild raspberry red with fine perlage.

Nose

The Extra Brut Rosé Grand Cru is a fragrant, fruity, and sensually creamy rosé champagne. It is reminiscent of wild berry confit, ripe raspberries, wild strawberries, some vineyard peach, and oranges, along with a hint of vanilla, crème brûlée, and some crushed rock.

Palate

On the palate, the Rosé Grand Cru is juicy and sensual. The prominent fruit combines with stony and herbal notes, a light tannin, and a hint of tobacco. The Rosé Grand Cru also displays notes of ripe peaches and raspberries, blood oranges and mandarins, as well as warm pastry. The sweetness is present but very well integrated, countered in the finish by the stony minerality. Initially hidden behind the red berry fruit, it then breaks free. It’s a delight.
