With plenty of punch and a flatteringly silky mouthfeel, it appears as sublime as a great Pinot Noir. Yet it clearly demonstrates its more southern climate. All receptors on the palate are activated, and your mouth literally waters. As you drink, it inspires you to drink more and somehow makes you really thirsty. With dark spiciness and plenty of spices like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise, it lingers on the palate for a long time. Coffee cream, dark chocolate, and cocoa butter repeatedly boost the finish. Truly strong!

Info

The Corinto grape, which originates from Greece, grows at an altitude of 350 m on volcanic and sandy soil. The destemmed grapes are fermented for ten days in French barriques, with the grape caps submerged several times. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in 500-liter barrels, before the wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined after one year.

At first glance, it’s like a trip to Bordeaux. Plums, blackberry, and cassis. Plus black pepper, a hint of leather, coffee, and graphite. Dark fruit, spice, and cool elegance combined. The nose reveals great complexity, and you hardly want to stop smelling it to discover something new. Above all, the roasted aromas of coffee and dark chocolate reveal themselves in a rarely elegant way.

Palate

The Tenuta di Castellaro 2019 Corinto offers a fresh and lively bouquet with lifted aromas of wild cherry, cassis and Japanese plum. There is a floral side to the bouquet with aromas that recall red rose and an earthy hint of wet stone. Those aromas certainly hit the high notes, but the wine is comfortably thin and lean to the palate, opening it up to a simple pasta pairing or a dish of roasted tomatoes stuffed with rice. Corinto Nero grapes are harvested in volcanic soils with lapilli stones at 400 meters in elevation. Only 3,000 bottles were produced.
