Information about the wine

The Attis winery in the Galician Rias Baixas has founded the Sangarida wine project in the Bierzo DO in northern Spain. The winery is producing fewer than 1,000 bottles of the 2021 El Morredero single-lot wine. The wine comes from the Mencia red grape, the main variety in Bierzo, which thrives in the region’s Atlantic-continental climate and typically produces red-fruited, floral, and fresh wines. The vines for El Morredero grow at an altitude of 600 meters on clay soil. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and spontaneously fermented in the cellar. The 12-month aging takes place in a 225-liter and a 500-liter oak barrel in secondary use.

Transparent cherry red

Nose

The 2021 El Morredero is fragrant, with varietal aromas of cherry and violet that stand out on the nose. Added to this is a smoky, mineral, and meaty side that contributes to the enticing bouquet.

Palate

Typical of the new Mencia style of Bierzo are the slim body and fine tannins. This red wine is juicy, elegant, and expressive, with a good flow. The stimulating finish is characterized by lively acidity. With only 12.5 percent alcohol and precisely this distinctive acidity, El Morredero is representative of the relatively cool 2021 vintage in Bierzo. This parcel wine generally has an Atlantic profile and thus does not correspond at all to the widespread image of the heavy, opulent Spaniard.
