Information about the Wine

The Doosberg – “Dachsberg” in High German – is located at an elevation of approximately 120 meters in Oestrich. The soil is composed of calcareous loess clay over terrace sediments and rocks of the Alzey Formation (sea sand), interspersed with strong Taunus quartz. Kühn’s property is situated on a fairly exposed hilltop with constant wind exposure, thus offering ideal conditions for healthy vine growth and good grape ripening. After hand-picking, the whole grapes were pressed over several hours, the must fermented spontaneously, and the wine, without altering the natural composition of the must, aged on the full lees for 16 months in traditional single-barrel and double-barrel barrels (1,200 l and 2,400 l).

Nose

The Riesling Oestricher Doosberg Großes Gewächs once again shines in 2022 with its understated and delicate, yet nevertheless intense character. It opens with notes of herbs, freshly trimmed hedges, smoke, and blossoms. These are followed by hints of lemons and zest, grapefruit, pome and stone fruit, with a touch of cider apple and tobacco.

Palate

On the palate, the 2022 Doosberg once again appears lean and delicate at first. Then, however, it becomes increasingly intense, powerful, and vibrant with plenty of energy and a distinct minerality. It has a solid draw, characterized by citrus notes with a hint of green herbs and stone fruit. It really pushes forward, but at the same time remains suspended, possessing great resilience and length.

The 2022 Riesling Ostriches Doosberg Grosses Gewächs comes with gentle herbal savor of crushed yarrow on the nose. The palate also has this lift. It’s a svelte, slender picture of serene dried and fresh lemon peel, with lovely traction from lemon pith. Deeply scented herbal overtones emerge on the finish.
