Winemaking has a long tradition around the town of Vittoria, where Arianna Occhipinti lives and cultivates her wines. Her winery, “Fossa di Lupo” – the wolf’s den – lies at the foot of the Iblei Mountains. Her passion lies in the region’s grapes, Frappato and Nero D’Avola. Her greatest concern is to preserve the power and harmony of Nero D’Avola and the freshness and elegance of Frappato. Arianna appreciates the ability of the two grape varieties to harmonize wonderfully with each other, despite their differences. She admires their strength and their ability to unite past and future. Anyone who thinks Arianna and Giusto Occhipinti are related is absolutely right: Giusto is her uncle.

Arianna Occhipinti’s 2022 Il Frappato is punchy and bright in a manner only this spirited young winemaker can manage. Frappato is a grape that wants and needs to show its primary freshness, and it does just that in the deft hands of Arianna Occhipinti. The wine stays on the skins for 20 days and then goes into cement, followed by 14 months in both French and Austrian oak. Fruit for this wine comes from a 10-hectare site at 220 meters in elevation with sandy limestone.
