Jaume Mesquida Mora was one of the visionaries of Mallorcan viticulture in the 1970s and 1980s. He was the first to plant Bordeaux grape varieties, and these continue to form the foundation for the island’s viticulture success. When he fell ill, Barbara, a philologist who had originally planned to pursue a career on the mainland, returned. However, the collaboration with her father was unsuccessful. She had entirely different ideas about viticulture in the future. It should be sustainable and ecological. With the help of her mother and uncle, she founded her own winery in 2012 with a few plots, focusing on the native varieties Callet, Manto Negro, and Prensal. After her father’s death, old vineyards were added. Today, the winery practices biodynamic farming, and the wines are among the most progressive and distinctive on the island.

Wine Information

The rosé from the Sincronia wine line from winemaker Barbara Mesquida Mora is a cuvée made from the indigenous Mallorcan grape variety Callet, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. The grapes are biodynamically cultivated, harvested separately, and the juice fermented after direct pressing. The batches are then combined, and the wine matures on the fine lees in steel tanks for several months.

Nose

This rosé has a mineral nose, initially with subtly reductive notes, which give way to floral and spicy aromas after some time in the air. Overall, the nose is stimulating and fine.

Palate

Sincronia falls into the category of “drinkable” rosé, but is anything but ordinary. On the palate, it is grippy, has a good structure, and mineral notes on the finish. The blend has a bright fruity and spicy character, a silky texture, and well-integrated acidity. The wine has something lively yet serious about it; it is uncomplicated yet still has personality. 2022 was a very hot vintage in the Mediterranean, which makes the freshness and tautness of this wine all the more impressive.
