Wine Info

2,500 vines per hectare, planted between 1950 and 1970 in the Bukkuram district, Pantelleria, on terraced volcanic slopes as low, freestanding bushes, trained using the “vite ad alberello” system, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the agricultural sector on November 26, 2014.

Vine Info

Yields are 25 hectoliters per hectare, harvested by hand from mid-August to the first week of September. 50% of the grapes are dried in the sun for at least three weeks on special mats, delimited by thick walls of volcanic rock. The remaining grapes ripen on the vine until September. Once fermentation has begun, the previously dried grapes are added to the base wine and macerated for approximately three months until a balance between alcohol content and residual sugar is achieved. Aging takes place for at least 30 months in 225-liter French oak barrels and six months in stainless steel tanks.

Colour

Intense mahogany with golden highlights.

Nose

The 2019 Bukkuram “Sole d̓ Agosto” has intense aromas of dried apricots, sweet mango, dates, raisins, nougat, pine honey, and juicy fruitcake. The sweet aromas are rounded off by distinct toasted notes reminiscent of wood smoke, tobacco box, and grilled almonds.

Palate

On the palate, the sweetness is evident, accompanied by a pleasantly fresh orange and citrus note. What a facet, what a playfulness, a mega-sweet wine that literally guides us to the dishes with which it harmonizes. This liveliness is fascinating.
