Wine Information

Mazzon, called “Mason” by Manincor to avoid confusion with the larger site above Neumarkt. Four hectares are planted with Pinot Nero in this unique location, a south-facing plateau at 400-450 m above sea level, sun-drenched and constantly exposed to the wind – ideal conditions for the narrow-berried Pinot grapes. The soil is sandy loam and interspersed with various rocks: dolomite, porphyry, gneiss, and granite can be found here, from small grains to fist-sized stones.

Vine Information

Each batch from the various plots was pressed separately. The must fermentation took place in wooden vats, spontaneously with the grapes’ own yeasts. Maceration lasted two weeks, with the pomace cake being dipped once a day. The 16-month aging took place in barriques, with only 20% new wood, and the wine remained on the fine lees the entire time. Only then were the individual plots blended, and the best barrels from the highest-altitude plot with the oldest vines were selected for the Mason di Mason.

Colour

Medium, slightly muted cherry red with distinct lightening towards the rim.

Nose

The 2019 Mason di Mason presents itself with great finesse. Bright fruit notes of sour cherry, red currant, young plum, and raspberry jam enchant the nose. A super-fine cedarwood note, a hint of cinnamon, and coffee with milk integrate perfectly. Its maturity suits it perfectly, yet it also appears incredibly playful and youthful.

Palate

It’s also stimulating on the palate, perfectly unfinished even in 2019, still in its youthful stage. A red wine that pairs perfectly with vegetables and fish dishes. Simply wonderful!

A biodynamic and organic wine, the Manincor 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Nero Mason di Mason is a medium dark expression of the Burgundian grape with generous fruit weight and intense aromas. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, earth and dried violet describe the bouquet of this wine. The wine evades any obvious determinations on grape, or even territory, rendering a unique experience. 3,210 bottles were released.
