Wine Information

The grapes come predominantly from the Karthäuserhofberg, but also consciously from Mertesdorf and Waldrach, in order to bring together the complete spectrum of the Karthäuserhof’s diverse terroirs in the single estate wine.

Fermentation

The grapes are harvested by hand, gently pressed, and fermented two-thirds in stainless steel and one-third in barrels. The wine then matures on the full lees for about six months.

Colour

Light, radiant golden yellow.

Nose

A beautifully influenced aroma of cool slate, which, with sufficient oxygen, reveals notes of peach, apple, apple peel, red currant, and grapefruit. A purist seducer announces itself.

Palate

Animating spiciness dominates the palate, accompanied by invigorating acidity and mouth-filling juiciness. A Riesling that is at peace with itself and boasts a delicate alcohol content of only 11.5% vol, making it the perfect aperitif and accompaniment to hearty, earthy cuisine.

The 2022 Riesling trocken Schieferkristall opens with a deep, pure and intense bouquet of crushed and finely weathered slate intermingled with ripe and juicy yellow fruit aromas. Round and vivacious on the palate, this is an enormously saline and crystalline dry Riesling with grip and tension and remarkable extract for a medium-bodied wine that was bottled with 11.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 01 23 in July 2024.

The 2022 Riesling Schieferkristall is immediately open with vivid, lemon-laced peach and a vestige of yeastiness. The light palate has subtle white pepper spice that almost verges into zestiness. Its phenolic edges remind a little of conifer. Bright, light and fresh. (Bone-dry)
