Product description for Jérôme Galeyrand Gevrey Chambertin “La Justice” AOP 2022
Jérôme Galeyrand is a Loire native who changed careers. He came to the region in the 1990s and initially worked for Alain Burguet and Vincent Geantet before purchasing his first 0.05-hectare plot in 2001. Today, he cultivates approximately 5.25 hectares, with a particular focus on vine genetics. Jérôme Galeyrand works without technological or oenological processes, uses no industrial yeast, glue, or enzymes, and only the necessary amount of sulfur. He believes that producing a great wine requires the combination of three essential elements: great terroir, the vine’s DNA with its remarkable genetic heritage, and a winemaker who respects all of this. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, are plowed, harvested by hand, and even the lunar cycles are taken into account. Galeyrand’s vineyards have been certified organic since 2019.
Colour
Dark garnet red.
Nose
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice from Jérôme Galeyrand seamlessly continues the winemaker’s signature style: the fruit is always open-hearted, yet always with a certain transparency that does not preclude a certain concentration. The fruit always has its own radiance and is underpinned by fine spicy notes such as licorice, star anise, and clove. Added to this are cocoa nibs and a citrus freshness reminiscent of tangerine peel. The floral top note is reminiscent of violet lilac. The Richard Gere of local wines.
Palate
With a silky texture, it is also an incredibly sensual wine on the palate, polished with fine yet profound fruit and juicy extract. The phenolics gently contour it on the tongue, while the finely ground tannins are almost like the finest powder, lending it an additional sweetness. Not a single ounce of fat on the hips, no rough edges in the mouth, but pure, polished hedonistic fuel with a nonchalant finish.

Wine Advocate
Score: 91
Bursting with aromas of red berries, rose petals, blood orange zest and spices, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with melting tannins and a floral finish. This parcel, planted in 1950 on the well-draining, sandy soils of this lieu-dit on Gevrey’s alluvial fan, always produces one of Galeyrand’s most extrovert wines.

Score: (88-90)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice emerges from vines planted in 1960. It presents dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and a touch of whole cluster savoriness. This mid-weight, fleshy Gevrey has a ton to offer in a pleasantly hearty style. – Antonio Galloni
