Wine Information

This wine comes from the Oberbergener Bassgeige vineyard. This renowned site takes its name from its characteristic shape. The vineyard is characterized by loess on basalt. This Erste Gewächs (First Growth) was spontaneously fermented to 1.5 grams of residual sugar. It was aged for 12 months in French barriques containing around 15% new wood.

Nose

The Bassgeige is a fresh, clear, juicy Pinot Noir with pure, open fruit of cherries, cranberries, and raspberries, which combine with fine wood notes such as vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, and oak, as well as hints of warm forest floor and a slightly fluffy, dark cake batter.

Palate

On the palate, the Pinot Noir is lively and clear, round and juicy, with already well-integrated tannins and a ripe, sensual, yet refreshing acidity. This is a wine that appears airy, playful, and uncomplicated, and indeed is. Nevertheless, its structure and power should not be underestimated. It is very harmonious and shines again in the finish with a subtle smoky note over the dark fruit.
