Casal Vegri comes from the vineyard of the same name in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. This blend, composed of 70% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, and 10% Rondinella and Molinara, grows at an east-facing elevation of 150 to 300 meters above sea level. The soils are primarily clay-limestone with a high proportion of rock and stone. After being hand-harvested, the grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 25°C. The wine then ages for 18 months in 3,000-liter barrels and a further six months in the bottle before release.

Brilliant ruby red, transparent and limpid.

Nose

The nose of the 2021 Casal Vegri from Ca’ la Bionda opens with exuberant floral notes: mallows, hollyhocks, and small violets dribble at their peak with a whole range of cherries—cornelian, sweet, and sour cherries—and mulberries. These are accompanied by spicy, distinctive notes of walnut shells, green almonds, and cashews.

Palate

The Casal Vegri is a refreshing Valpolicella that doesn’t pretend to be a sub-Amarone. Transparent with a silky flow and striking acidity, it enters taut, with the ever-dominant cherry as the leading aroma. The silky tannin nestles around the long, sweeping acidity, flanked by shimmering extract. Fine and delicate with plenty of punch, it is a benchmark for the region.
