Wine Information

The Bensheim Hemsberg is characterized by weathered granite. It is pure granite gravel with plenty of skeleton and a sufficient proportion of fine soil in the topsoil. The old vines on terraces are interspersed with trees and hedges. After being hand-picked, the Riesling was slowly pressed for 2.5 hours and spontaneously fermented in a 560-liter stainless steel vat, as well as fermented with pure yeasts. It rested in barrels for four months on the full lees and two on the fine lees. It was coarsely filtered and has a SO2 content of around 88 mg/l.

Nose

The 2023 Hemsberg is a fresh, juicy, classic-looking Riesling with fine fruit of grapes, apples, greengage, and citrus fruits with white blossoms and some rock.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh, with crystal-clear, pure Riesling fruit, green pome fruit, and some crisp stone fruit. The wine is present and pure, has extract and is pleasantly dry, yet still possesses a very subtle sweetness that balances the clear acidity. The first glass whets your appetite for a second; the subtle saltiness lingers, and the enjoyment of the wine doesn’t diminish with the second glass.
