The Odinstal vineyard in Wachenheim lies at an elevation of up to 350 meters, making it the highest single vineyard in the Mittelhaardt region. The resulting slightly cooler temperatures allow the grapes to ripen over low heat, creating very delicate, subtle aromas. The vineyards have been farmed organically since the early 1990s, and biodynamically since 2006. Johann Ludwig Wolf, mayor of Wachenheim, built the Odinstal winery in the early 19th century. The Hensel family acquired the winery in 1998 and has since then uncompromisingly focused on quality and authenticity. The geological faults caused by the volcanic eruption on the Pechsteinkopf have led to soils varying from mineral-rich basalt to Bunter sandstone, Muschelkalk, and Keuper in a very small area.
