Product description for Bret Brothers Beaujolais, Brouilly Zen AOC 2022 (bio)When the term “Bret” appears in connection with wine, it usually refers to a wine fault; Brett is short for Brettanomyces, the yeast fungus that gives wine the smell of horse stables and wet fur. However, the Bret Brothers have nothing to do with any of this. They own the Domaine de la Soufrandière and, in 2001, established a négociant business, offering wines from purchased grapes in addition to a selection of wines from their own vineyards. The quality is of the same standard, thanks to the fact that the grapes come exclusively from old, organic vines certified by Ecocert and harvested by hand. In the cellar, they are vinified in the same way as the domaine’s grapes, using spontaneous fermentation and the use of barrels that are seven to 20 years old. The wines on offer come from the Mâconnais and, increasingly, from neighboring Beaujolais.
