Product description for La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Clos de Beauvenir” Blanc AOC 2022 (bio)
Château La Nerthe was already renowned far beyond France’s borders in the 18th century. Since 1985, every effort has been made to once again rank it among the finest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Organic farming, certified since 1998, has played a significant role in this. The 57 plots of the 92 hectares of vineyards are vinified and matured separately, with the four main soil types and the 13 grape varieties of the appellation at their disposal. Only then does estate manager Rémi Jean, with admirable intuition, begin to craft extraordinarily complex white and red wines with outstanding aging potential. The Clos de Beauvenir and Les Cadettes are the two historic vineyards below the château. The Clos is reserved for white varieties due to its higher limestone content. The Cuvée des Cadettes is based on the estate’s oldest vines, primarily the Grenache Noir vines planted in 1935.

The new wood has been pared back in the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Clos de Beauvenir, a 70-30 blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc aged predominantly in demi-muids, with 15% going into new barriques. Hints of oaky spice accent pineapple and lime notes on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is rich and silky in texture, even a trifle phenolic on the finish in its youth. This should be even better in another year or two.

Blending 56% Roussanne with 44% Grenache Blanc from certified organic grapes, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Clos de Beauvenir delivers. Swirling the glass unlocks fragrant pineapple, spring blossom, white peach and lemon flesh notes. Concentrated and round, this is a serious Blanc Clos de Beauvenir with the potential to gain more nuance after a few years in bottle. That said, it’s already drinking splendidly.
