The Muscat comes from a selection of our own old vines of white and red grapes of the Muscat d’Alsace variety. It is late-ripening with a good acid structure and is ideally suited to the warm climate. The Turckheim Muscat is grown exclusively on the rich and deeper part of the alluvial land of Turckheim, where it is somewhat cooler and better able to withstand the dry periods of summer. The Muscat requires full physiological ripeness and therefore should not be harvested too early to avoid vegetal aromas.

Colour

Rich straw yellow, bright and clear.

Nose

The 2020 Turckheim Muscat from Zind Humbrecht once again raises the question of why so little Muscat is drunk. Especially in autumn, there is hardly anything more versatile, when the pantry is well-stocked and the table is well-set. This year, the typical Muscat notes clearly lean toward the spicy, or rather muscat, direction. The grape-like Muscat aromas remain more in the background. A touch of shellac, polish, then spicy notes, and finally some dried fruit frame the palate.

Palate

Viscous with an almost oily feel, it flows across the palate, fueled by a piquant acidity that bursts out of its formation and carries its baroque splendour into the modern age. Powerful yet taut with a vertical peak, this is certainly not a wine to be enjoyed solo on the sofa, but rather a grateful curator of autumnal culinary delights.
