Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Heimbourg 2023 (bio)
Sebastian Bordthäuser: Impressively taut with fine minerality and a creamy texture, this high-performance spice nestles itself in the connoisseur’s palate. With a creamy texture, it is flanked by citrus aromas on a minerally saline foundation. Nothing exuberant or expansive adorns it; rather, it captivates with precision and enormous discipline on the palate. Polished and clear, the sweetness is perfectly embedded in the compact structure of the wine, which, like all great spices, will thank you for its appropriate maturity. The Trapet family has been growing wine in Gevrey-Chambertin for six generations. Jean-Louis Trapet took over the fortunes of the winery from his father in 1992 and led it to new heights in terms of quality. To achieve the greatest possible expression of the origins, yields were reduced and farming practices changed. Trapet has been cultivating viticulture on a good 14 hectares according to biodynamic principles since 1997, and fining and filtration are also avoided in the cellar. The domaine owns vineyards in the best Grand and Premier Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin. When Jean-Louis married Andrée, a native Alsatian, the vineyards and the branch in Riquewihr came into the marriage. Since Andrée, as a winegrower’s daughter, is just as attached to her homeland as her husband, there was no either/or, but only a both/and. Thus, Domaine Trapet emerged from the domaine of Jean-Pierre and Hélène Graye, and has since offered the couple the rare opportunity to work with two historic terroirs. The plots are also cultivated according to biodynamic principles. Located north of the town exit of Beblenheim towards Zellenberg, the Grand Cru Sonnenglanz faces southeast at 220-270 meters above sea level. The site is predominantly planted with Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer and covers a total area of 32.80 hectares. The homogeneous soils consist of Tertiary border conglomerate of the Rhine Graben limestone and interspersed marls of Eo-Oligocene age, which together form a heavy, well-structured, and stony limestone soil.
Colour
Light golden yellow with bright reflections, radiant and clear.
Nose
The 2018 Sonnenglanz Gewürztraminer Grand Cru from Domaine Trapet pulls out all the stops for the grape variety, but does so with pleasant understatement. White peach and linden blossoms tentatively open the overture before orange zest and green tangerines enrich the orchestra. This is followed by a handful of pink rose petals and a honey-drenched honeycomb, all grounded by the profound beat on wet limestone. The decanter lurks in the stage pit.

Nothing exuberant or expansive adorns it; rather, it captivates with its precision and tremendous discipline on the palate.
