Description
Anyone who visits the Domaine de Villaine soon realises that this is a quiet place far away from the hustle and bustle associated with the winery in which the de Villaines are also involved: the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Aubert de Villaine has never sought the limelight, but has always rather focussed on the wine. This was and is true for the most famous of all Burgundy domains as well as for the family vineyard, which is located in Bouzeron on the Côte Chalonnaise. The village is best known for the Aligoté Doré grape variety, for which the AOP Village Bouzeron was created. In addition to Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Mercurey, Rully, Saint-Aubin and Santenay are also produced. The domaine has been working biodynamically for decades. The grand seigneur de Villaine is no longer primarily responsible for the wines – Pierre de Benoist and Thierry Devaux took over this task some years ago.
