Description
When the Pujol-Busquets Guillén family founded the Alta Allela winery in 1991 on the 19th-century Can GenÃs estate, they were among the pioneers of organic viticulture in Penedès. The winery is located in the middle of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, just a few dozen metres from the Mediterranean Sea and a few kilometres from Barcelona. From the beginning, the Pujol- Busquets have worked organically to bring the vineyards, some of which are 60 years old, into balance with the native flora and fauna surrounding them. In addition to the classic cava varieties Xarel.lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, they have planted Pansa Blanca and Mataró. The Gran Reserva Cavas age for at least 30 months in the bottle, while some Collection Cavas have an ageing period of over ten years. In 2020, the Cava Consortium designated the home of Alta Allela as a D.O. CAVA Comtats de Barcelona – Territorio Serra de Mar.
