The Pinot Gris from Herrenweg in Turckheim comes from 32-year-old vines growing on the gravelly alluvial soils of the Fecht. The dry 2023 vintage produced healthy, perfectly ripe grapes without botrytis – harvested as early as the beginning of September, as the winery’s first parcel. Accordingly, the wine fermented early: clear, dry, and precise. With only 1.2 g/l of residual sugar and 12% alcohol, it is taut and balanced. The acidity is a fresh 5.2 g/l, and the pH is 3.45. The yield was 57 hl/ha.

Light old gold, radiant and clear.

Nose

Aromatically crystal-clear and textbook-precise, the 2023 Pinot Gris Turckheim from Zind-Humbrecht smells of rosy-cheeked apples, slightly bacony pear, stone fruit, and mace alongside green almonds. It certainly couldn’t be better – but it could hardly be better.

Palate

The palate delivers on the promise of the nose and goes a step further: It tightens up the highly aromatic presentation and transforms it into a crystal-clear, almost crystalline interplay of aromas, the likes of which we only know from Pinot Gris from Alsace. Firm, sinewy, and taut with a clear flow and crystalline finish.
