Wine Information

The Silvaner comes from the Maustal vineyard, a four-hectare vineyard south of Sulzfeld am Main, facing south and southeast. The steep slope is characterized by the barren and skeletal Upper Muschelkalk. The vines for this Silvaner are the oldest vines planted by the winery and date back to 1962 and 1963. What makes this vineyard special is that it is Gelber Silvaner, not Grüner Silvaner, that was planted here. As always at the Zehnthof Luckert winery, the grapes are harvested and destemmed by hand, allowed a slightly longer maceration period, and fermented spontaneously. Luckert’s wines are aged in classic double-barreled Spessart oak barrels.

Nose

Luckert’s Silvaner Maustal is once again one of the great German wines in 2023. The balance of this wine is stunning. Even the aroma brings everything together: the fine fruit, the floral notes, the only slightly stony and spicy notes marked by lichen on damp rock, a very subtle reduction, nutty, tobacco notes, a hint of curry, green fruit notes, some root vegetables, and a very delicate sweetness.

Palate

On the palate, the Silvaner Maustal presents an elegant acidity, a silky texture, and a blend of yellow bell pepper, white-fleshed fruit, and some citrus, through which the acidity meanders, bringing with it the subtle energy of the minerality. Added to this is the spice and herbaceousness, the tobacco and nuttiness already perceptible on the nose. This is world-class Silvaner with density and concentration, structure and a unique relaxed self-confidence.
