It takes a lot of chutzpah to revive old, steep, and labour-intensive vineyards in 2015 and establish the first and only winery in decades in a region once world-renowned for its wines, which has since experienced unprecedented decline. Victoria Ordóñez had the chutzpah and the right people on her side to establish this important project in the Sierras de Málaga. The daughter of a wine merchant, she had actually earned a doctorate in medicine. But at some point, she became aware of the neglected wine-cultural heritage and the associated abandoned vineyards, and began to get involved. Málaga, and that means, above all, Pédro Ximénez, formerly mostly fortified and sweet, but in her case, dry and terroir-focused. Added to this is the region’s second important grape variety, Moscatel de Málaga, which is also causing a sensation.
