Wine Info

The grapes come from a single vineyard (Sola) in Audinaggio, in the Valmaggiore region, in the municipality of Vezza d’Alba. The original core of the vineyard dates back to 1947, and the steep slope of the hill allows only manual work. The exposure is southeast, south, and southwest; the soil is sandy. The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness.

Vineyard Info

The fermentation and maceration of the grapes lasts a few weeks. After the necessary aging in barrels, the wine is bottled in the waning moon of the autumn following the harvest. After a further aging in the bottle for almost two years, the wine is ready for market. In particularly valuable vintages, the wine bears the designation “Riserva”.

Colour

Ruby red with garnet highlights towards the rim.

Nose

The 2021 Roero Riserva Vigna Valmaggiore has something mystical about it; sweet red berries combine with dried rose petals, incense, and oriental spices such as cardamom and cloves. All the aromas are finely interwoven and underpinned by a cool, stony minerality.

Palate

Expansive, with juicy fruit and a delicate sweetness, it flows across the palate. Its tannin structure is ripe yet present, and the acidity is invigorating, making it the perfect wine for braised and grilled dishes, and also fantastic with offal. A wine that enchants the senses and showcases the fire of Italy.
